The CMAA is very pleased to announce that the full communion antiphons with Psalms are now available in print, in a 315-page book, beautifully bound and easy to use: Communio: Communion Antiphons with Psalm Verses, as prepared by Richard Rice in cooperation with the Church Music Association of America.
You can purchase it right now, and it will be delivered in 7-10 days. Buy multiple copies for everyone in your schola to use.
These specially prepared communion antiphons from the Graduale Romanum include the Psalm verses (according to the Nova Vulgata) set to the corresponding tones, as described in the rubrics for singing the Mass.
These antiphons and Psalms represent the ideal for all Catholic parishes, as recommended from the earliest rubrics to the General Instruction, and also fill a gap in the existing chant books. The CMAA, then, is very pleased to offer these full versions of the Communion antiphons, including the full Psalm verses, as a beautiful one-volume work and as free and quick downloads chant by chant. They are listed in alphabetical order. The sincere hope here is that more parishes will use them as a means of singing what the Church asks us to sing, and thereby assist in maintaining the most beautiful and solemn setting for the reception of the Holy Eucharist.
Special thanks to Richard Rice, director of the Canticum Novum Schola of Greater Washington, DC, who prepared these editions. Of this project, Paul F. Ford (Flowing Waters) writes: “Hats in the air! And deep gratitude! What a useful project.” Another choirmaster writes: “This is a marvelous resource. The free downloads have already saved me time and energy… having everything in ONE volume will be even better! My little schola is less likely to lose the books than the printed sheets. I can’t wait for it to arrive!” Still another says: “I just ordered my copy. No more scrambling before Mass to download a replacement of the lost sheet!”
